NTN Cylindrical Roller Bearings

NTN Cylindrical roller bearings have rollers that provide a modified line contact with the cylindrical inner and outer ring raceways, while the rollers are guided by ground ribs on either the inner or outer ring. The cylindrical shape allows the inner ring to have axial movement relative to the outer ring. This is especially important when accommodating thermal expansion, where both rings must be press-fitted.

NTN offer premium cylindrical roller bearings under the NTN and Bower® brand names. Most NTN and all Bower® cylindrical roller bearings feature case-carburized components. Rings and rollers are made from case-hardened alloy steel of “Bearing Quality” to provide superior fatigue life and reliability. Precise control of heat treatment, dimensions, and surface finish of the components further contribute to reliable bearing performance. AS Heat Treatment for NTN Cylindrical Roller Bearings

NTN’s Austenite Strengthening process (AS) is a special heat treatment applied to the rolling elements. By chemically altering the surface chemistry of the roller, NTN is able to create a thin layer of retained Austenite that results in compressive stresses that increase bearing life. AS Treatment alone results in a material life multiplier of 1.5. When used in conjunction with TMB, that life multiplier increases to 3.6.

HL Surface Treatment for NTN Cylindrical Roller Bearings

NTN’s unique micro-pitting surface finish increases bearing life in applications with insufficient lubrication. Based on the theory that oil film formation in bearing contact areas can be improved by changing the character and direction of the components’ surface finishes, the distinguishing micro-pots are able to effectively capture and channel oil to where it’s needed.

High Capacity Separator for NTN Cylindrical Roller Bearings

NTN has developed technology that combines the high load capacity of a full complement bearing with the high rotational speed capabilities of a caged design. By placing a resin rolling element separator between the rollers, NTN can keep the same number of rollers as a full complement design and prevent roller contact to reduce friction and heat generation. By optimizing the shape and guidance method of the separators, allowable speeds can be achieved that are equivalent to those for bearings with cages.

NTN Tapered Roller Bearings

Tapered roller bearings utilize conical rollers and raceways, arranged so that the rollers and raceways meet at a common apex. The rollers are guided by contact between the large end of the roller and a rib on the inner ring. This provides high capacity for radial and single thrust loads.

NTN XL100 Tapered Roller Bearings

The design of NTN XL100 Tapered Roller Bearings includes many of the upgrades NTN offers in their bearings, including enhanced material, enhanced heat treatment, and optimized roller crowning. These features increase the bearing’s life adjustment factor to 1.9, ultimately leading to longer bearing life.

Special Roller Crowning for NTN Tapered Roller Bearings

NTN’s pioneering efforts in developing crowned rollers have resulted in greater load-carrying capability and longer bearing life. Crowned rollers under load distribute stress equally along their full length of contact with the raceways, thereby eliminating stress concentration at the roller ends. This design concept also compensates for minor misalignment between shaft and housing bore and deflection under load, thereby reducing stress concentration.

NTN Needle Roller Bearings

NTN Needle Roller BearingsNTN Needle bearings feature a smaller cross-section, higher load-carrying capacity, greater rigidity, and lower inertia forces that facilitate size and weight reductions in machinery. They’re designed to withstand oscillation, perform under severe conditions, and interchange with sliding bearings. Diverse types of needle bearings are available from NTN in a wide variety of sizes and tolerances, for a multitude of applications.

Needle roller and cage assemblies are offered in single or double row, solid or split cage, metric and inch sizes; as well as in connecting rod bearings for special applications.

NTN Spherical Roller Bearings

Spherical Roller Bearings are designed for extremely severe applications and must support high loads, severe misalignment, contaminated environments, shocks, and vibrations.

NTN Spherical Roller BearingsNTN SNR Sphericals feature a load rating that is a full 18% higher than a standard spherical roller bearing. This level of quality means at least a 75% extension of service life. The performance of these sphericals is achieved through the use of very high quality raw materials and optimized rolling element geometry.

Other benefits of NTN's Spherical Roller Bearing design include: reduced friction torque (as much as 30% less), offering lower operating temperature, with lower power and lubricant consumption; increased operating speed, allowing an extended scope of applications; high temperature capacity of up to 200°C (392°F) for metallic cage bearings with dimensional stability ensured by a specific heat treatment; and A +/- 0.5° misalignment capability, without reducing the load capacity, and up to 1° 30’ in case of low loads.
