Timken Precision Bearings for Machine Tools

For the many different types of industrial equipment where anti-friction bearings are used, designers select the bearings based on specific criteria. Some seek long life, some require the ability to tolerate heavy loads, while others require extreme precision or stiffness. In machine tools, the bearings often have to deliver all three.

Super Precision Ball Bearings

Precision ball bearings are used for high precision applications in a variety of markets, including aerospace, health, machine tool, robotics and general industry.

  • Timken Super Precision Ball BearingsMM/MMV (Machine Tool Bearings) combine the accuracy and performance of ABEC 9/ISO P2 with the non-critical features of ABEC 7/ISO P4 levels for cost effectiveness.
  • MMX (Machine Tool Bearings) are made to ABEC 9/ISO P2 levels and have closer tolerances and running accuracies than ABEC 7/ISO P4 tolerances. Ideal for ultra-high speed grinding spindles designed for tight dimensional tolerances and super-fine surface finishes.

Precision Tapered Roller Bearings
  • Single-Row Tapered Roller Bearings consist of the cone assembly and the cup. It is usually fitted as one of an opposing pair. During equipment assembly, single-row tapered roller bearings can be set to the required clearance or preload condition to optimize performance.
  • Double-Row Tapered Roller Bearings feature double cups and two single cones. Double- or two-row tapered roller bearings are available in a variety of configurations for general industrial and automotive applications.

Ball Screw Support Bearings

Timken’s broad line of Fafnir® ball screw support bearings includes single- and double-row designs with a variety of mounting configurations. They offer flanged and non-flanged series for both standard and rotating nut mountings. Housed cartridge and pillow block units facilitate bolting to machine tool surfaces.

The Timken® Hydra-Rib™ bearing is a tapered roller design available in any class of precision to maintain optimum spindle system preload. The Hydra-Rib bearing has a floating outer race rib, positioned by hydraulic or pneumatic pressure, and is in contact with the large roller ends instead of the usual fixed inner race rib. This retains system stiffness while allowing for thermal expansion. Its floating rib design allows the bearing to compensate for thermal growth variations while maintaining the optimum setting and accuracy for a variety of speeds and loads.

Precision Crossed Roller Bearings

Precision crossed roller bearings (TXR) are designed to offer the highest levels of rotational accuracy and rigidity while conserving space and saving material costs. The bearing features two sets of races and rollers brought together at right angles with alternate rollers facing in opposite directions. This allows two half-rows of rollers to fit into the space of one. The steep-angle, tapered geometry results in a total effective bearing spread much greater than the width of the bearing itself.

Precision Cylindrical Roller Bearings

Timken’s precision cylindrical roller bearings for screw drives feature a combination of axial cylindrical rollers and radial needle rollers.
